COMMERCE CITY— Dillon Serna suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and a lateral meniscus tear in his right knee during the Rapids’ U.S. Open Cup match against FC Dallas on Wednesday night.

Ensuing surgery will sideline the Colorado midfielder for six to eight months.

“We are extremely disappointed for Dillon that this injury has come at a time when he and the club are doing so well,” said Paul Bravo, the Rapids’ technical director and vice president of soccer operations. “Now, it is important for us to fully support him throughout the process of getting back on the field. Everyone at the club wishes Dillon a speedy recovery.”

Serna scored twice in five starts this season and made a total of 11 appearances for the MLS-leading Rapids.
