The chance for rain will increase Thursday afternoon and in the evening for the Denver metro area as a cold front enters the state and begins to drop temperatures significantly.
The high temperature is expected to rise to about 87 degrees as wind enters the state from the southwest, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.
A wind change in the afternoon will bring cooler temperatures from the north. There is a 30 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms, mostly after 3 p.m.
It will be much cooler on Friday, with a high of around 73 degrees under cloudy skies.

There is a 40 percent chance of afternoon rain and thunder on Friday. The probability of rain increases in the evening to around 50 percent.
The high on Saturday will be about 72 degrees, according to the NWS. The low Saturday night will be a chilly 48 degrees, which is about 10 degrees lower than average for this time of year.
The likelihood of rain decreases through the weekend. There is on a 10 percent chance of rain on Saturday and it should be mostly sunny on Sunday.
Temperatures will rise to about 82 on Sunday and 87 on Monday.
There is a slight chance for afternoon rain Monday through Wednesday. High temperatures on Tuesday and Wednesday will be about 84 and 81 respectively.
