Director Tim Burton’s best work usually combines an absurd premise, sunny exteriors and a sharp, playfully dark underbelly — all of which are present in 1988’s brilliant “Bٱܾ.” The fast-paced, impeccably designed supernatural fantasy features career-defining turns by Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder and others, but it gives equal play to its insanely inspired setpieces, costuming and a tricky balance of dark and sentimental themes.
The film is the second-to-last in the Sie FilmCenter’s August-September series of Tim Burton films, and lucky for your (slightly) older kids, tickets are $5 and include an all-you-can-eat cereal bar beginning at 10 a.m. Sept. 3. Film at 10:30 a.m. 2510 E. Colfax Ave.
