Volunteers supporting the Women’s March on Denver are expecting more than 40,000 people to converge on Civic Center Saturday morning to telegraph a message to the incoming Trump administration.
Inspired by the the Denver demonstration and parade through downtown is one of 200 that have organized around the U.S. to “support social justice, human rights and equality, and to demonstrate that we will be vigilant in protecting these rights moving forward,” organizers wrote at .
Participants will begin gathering near the Voorhies Memorial (on the West Colfax Avenue side of the park) around 9 a.m. Saturday.
A 1.3 mile parade through downtown begins at 9:30 a.m., marching up 15th Street to Glenarm Place, following Glenarm to 17th Street, following 17th to Champa, taking Champa back to 15th. The march turns at Welton Street, then follows 14th Street back to Civic Center.
Starting around 11:15 a.m., a slate of 30 speakers and performers will take the Greek Amphitheater stage, on the West 14th Avenue Parkway side of the park, in rapid succession. It’s a long list, but organizers said in the spirit of valuing all points of view, they wanted to make sure every voice was heard, spokeswoman Lisa Cutter explained.Speakers and performers include elected officials, leaders of nonprofits, women’s health advocates, drummers and the Fort Collins Hoop Circle. Parking will be tight, so organizers strongly suggest carpooling or taking public transportation.

In anticipation of the crush of participants, RTD is adding buses to the Flatiron Flyer routes that run along U.S. 36 from Boulder to Denver, and plans to add additional cars for its scheduled rail trips Saturday as needed, spokesman Scott Reed said.
RTD also will add extra MallRide shuttles to move people between Union Station and Civic Center Station at Colfax and Broadway.
The transit agency also will watch local routes and the 120x bus that runs from the Wagon Road Park n Ride in Thornton to Union Station and add extra buses as needed.
RTD also noted that there is ample parking at the new Westminster B-Line rail station near Federal Boulevard and West 71st Avenue and typically plenty of room on the train, which runs directly to Union Station.
RTD bus routes 0, 1, 6, 8, 9, 10, 15, 15L, 16, 19, 20, 28, 32, 38, 43, 44, 48, 52 and the Free MallRide will experience detours starting at about 9:30 a.m. Friday.
Colorado Women’s College, at 1901 E. Asbury Ave. in Denver, will make space indoors for making signs starting at 7 a.m.
