Catch me if you can. A man dropped off by a taxi driver in the 8300 block of West 38th Avenue, Arvada on Jan. 9, ran away without paying. The suspect was found in the 7700 block of West 38th Avenue where a foot pursuit ensued. Once apprehended the suspect was issued a summons for theft and obstruction, and transported to jail on an escape warrant.

Sticky fingers. On Jan. 12, Arvada police responded to a report of theft at Big 5 Sporting Goods, 5185 Kipling St. A young male and female left the store with a backpack, sleeping bag, air pistol and an armful of clothing without paying. The items were valued at $410.52. A store employee said the female suspect appeared to be “tweaking out on something.” About an hour later, Wheat Ridge police contacted Arvada police with suspects in custody. They were issued municipal summons for theft and the female was taken for medical evaluation.

Long list of no-no’s. On Jan. 13 at 3:59 a.m., an Arvada police officer pulled over a Chevy Silverado at the intersection of West 72nd Avenue and Zinnia Street. The truck was stopped for driving without its headlights illuminated, not using a turn signal, weaving and driving in the bicycle lane. Upon contact, the officer reported the strong odor of marijuana. The suspect was unable to provide proof of insurance and failed a roadside sobriety test. When asked if he had any weapons in the vehicle, the suspect noted a knife, but upon searching the truck the officer found a handgun.

Roadside scuffle. Arvada police responded to the report of a fight in at the intersection of West 52nd Avenue and Independence Street on Jan. 14. A man driving home claimed the car behind him was driving dangerously close to his car’s rear bumper. At a stop sign he slammed on his brakes causing the car behind him to slam on theirs. The driver in the rear car began honking and yelling then continued to tailgate. At the next stop sign the driver in the rear car began waving a tire iron threateningly out the window. At the following intersection the driver of the rear car pulled in front of the leading car and exited the vehicle. A fight ensued until officers arrived to break it up.
