Bao Bao, the beloved 3-year-old panda at the National Zoo in Washington, departed for Chengdu, China this morning as part of a cooperative breeding program between the National Zoo and the China Wildlife Conservation Association (CWCA). Zoo keepers escorted a transport crate holding giant panda Bao Bao, moved by a forklift up a path for loading into a Fedex Truck at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo Feb. 21, 2017 in Washington, D.C. All cubs that were born in the zoo will be transferred to China when they turn four years old. Bao Bao will turn four on August 23.
