Nolan Arenado surges past Kris Bryant to take lead in All-Star Game vote

Arenado owns a 104,182-vote lead in the latest voting update

is making a run at his first All-Star Game start.

The Rockies third baseman had trailed Kris Bryant of the Cubs throughout the voting process, but in the latest update from Major League Baseball Thursday morning, Arenado pulled ahead of the reigning NL MVP. Colorado’s four-time Gold Glove winner has 2,426,431 votes to Bryant’s 2,322,249 — a 104,182-vote lead.

Arenado was behind by about 58,000 on Monday. If he wins, he will be the first Rockies third baseman to be voted a starter. Vinny Castilla started in the 1995 game in place of Matt Williams.

The 2017 MLB All-Star Game will take place at July 11 at Marlins Park in Miami.
