Colorado State has worn iconic rams horns on its football helmets since … well, what feels like forever.
The school first introduced the . Since 1974, green horns on a yellow helmet or gold horns on a green helmet has been a CSU staple. The only notable exception being the 2007 Ag Day game against Cal in which the Rams donned white numbers on solid green helmets as a throwback to their 1958 look.
There appears to be at least one more exception on the horizon.
CSU football teased new uniforms from its Twitter account Tuesday with a GIF of a shadowy player walking away from the camera and a date of Sept. 21, 2017. The player is wearing an all-white jersey with dark numbers (presumably green), but here’s the kicker — a white helmet.
From what we can see, the helmet has a white base (it looks glossy rather than matte) with a triple stripe (dark, white, dark) up the middle and no noticeable horns on either side.

We’ll have to wait until Thursday to see exactly what these look like and what game the Rams plan to wear them for (CSU has a bye this week then heads to Hawaii on Sept. 30), but they appear to be a drastic shift from what’s been considered the norm around Fort Collins. According to , which has archives of CSU uniforms dating back to 1922, the school has never donned a white helmet.
