Spotlight on: Troy Terry. The Highlands Ranch native and former Denver hockey star agreed to a three-year contract Monday with the Ducks. Terry, 20, made his NHL debut on Tuesday in a 4-1 loss on Vancouver and was scratched in Anaheim’s 2-1 overtime victory Friday against Los Angeles. Terry made the quick transition from NCAA Tournament elimination with the Pioneers to beginning his professional career. “I was a little nervous to how they were going to accept me, just meeting me on the road and then all of a sudden in the game,” . “They’re pushing for the playoffs here. … But right away, you noticed all the guys have been in the situation that I’m in and they kept telling me that, and they were super nice to me.”

Avalanche: The Avalanche is one spot outside the final wild-card selection from the Western Conference with 92 points. … Colorado goalie Semyon Varlamov has a lower-body injury and is out the rest of the regular season, the team announced Saturday. Varlamov exited the Avs’ 5-0 victory against Chicago with 6:25 left after a collision with Chicago forward Tomas Jurco in the crease. Colorado goalie Jonathan Bernier practiced Saturday and is expected to start against the Ducks. “(Varlamov) has a couple different things going on from that collision. He’s going to get re-evaluated next week some time,” Avs coach Jared Bednar said. “I was just talking with Bernier about it. It feels like we haven’t had both of those guys (healthy) together since Christmas. … The Avs also announced Saturday that defenseman Erik Johnson has suffered a fractured patella and is out at least six weeks. Johnson has appeared in 62 games this season with 25 points (nine goals and 16 assists). … Defenseman Mark Barberio and center Colin Wilson skated in red non-contact sweaters at practice Saturday. Bednar could not provide a timeline on either player’s return, but each will travel with the team.
Ducks: Anaheim currently holds the top wild-card spot in the Western Conference with 93 points. … The Ducks have reached 40 or more wins in five consecutive seasons, a franchise record. … Anaheim is 23-10-5 at home. … The Ducks have lost each of their previous two matchups with the Avalanche this season, and both by 3-1 scores inside the Pepsi Center. … Anaheim has scored 202 goals this season, a mark that ranks No. 28 out of 31 NHL teams.
