Commuters from Boulder to Denver should plan for alternate routes this weekend and into the work week as crews repair a large crack on the eastbound lanes of U.S. 36, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

Eastbound lanes at Wadsworth Boulevard remained closed  Saturday, and a transportation spokesman said the road likely won’t reopen until at least early this week.

The bike path at the U.S. 36 bridge will be closed until Sunday — and potentially longer, spokesman Matt Inzeo said. A detour has been put in place.

Cracks formed on a 200-foot section of the highway because of moist soil under the road, the transportation department said. Crews removed concrete paving panels Friday night, and crews dried and stabilized the soil Saturday in preparation for emergency repairs.

Transportation officials suggested drivers use alternative routes: Northwest Parkway (toll road) to Interstate 25, and Colorado 93 to Colorado 58, connecting to I-70.

Officials also suggested using other modes of transportation, such as the Flatiron Flyer, or teleworking for those commuting from Boulder to Denver next week.

Updated information can be found at or CDOT’s and pages.
