Flames shot through the roof of a Thornton apartment building on Monday, sending black plumes of smoke into the sky as firefighters battled the blaze.

The fire broke out at the Skyline Apartments, 517 E. 88th Ave., building No. 10, according to the Thornton Fire Department.

Multiple fire departments helped fight the fire, including Adams County Fire Rescue, Westminster Fire Department and North Metro Fire Rescue District.

Two people were taken to a local hospital with injuries from the fire, Thornton fire said. Two other people were injured but refused treatment.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
