Denver police are asking for the public’s help in a homicide investigation after a 14-year-old boy was killed Monday afternoon near a baseball diamond at the Southwest Recreation Center.
Police said Josiaz “JoJo” Aragon was killed around 1:15 p.m. Monday outside the rec center at 9200 West Saratoga Place. He would have turned 15 on Wednesday, police said.
A passerby saw the boy lying near the baseball field and called 911, Denver police spokesman Doug Schepman said.
Aragon showed “signs of trauma” but Schepman would not be more specific about the boy’s injuries. The official cause of death will be released by the medical examiner.
Aragon did not live near the recreation center and police are trying to figure out why he was there, Schepman said.
“We have a distraught family who instead of celebrating his birthday is grieving his loss,” he said.
Denver police on Monday night had said the homicide victim was “a male who appears to be an adult.”
Schepman urged anyone with information about the boy’s death to call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867. A $2,000 reward is being offered for information.
