A sunny start to 2023 will give way to snow in Denver as a winter storm moves across the Front Range Sunday evening and into Monday.
The city is under a winter weather advisory starting at 7 p.m. Sunday and stretching through 8 p.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service at Boulder. Between two and four inches of new snowfall is expected.
The storm will likely start off with freezing rain Sunday evening and then transition into snow by the pre-dawn hours of Monday, said Jim Kalina, meteorologist at the National Weather Service at Boulder.
“If we do see that, it could cause slick, icy roads,” he said. “After that, it’s light snow, to moderate snow at times,” he said.
The National Weather Service at Boulder warned travelers should expect slippery road conditions that may impact the Monday morning and evening commutes. A light glaze of ice is possible, the weather service warned. Sunday’s high is expected to reach 42 degrees and drop to an overnight low of 26.
