The eastbound lanes of Interstate 76 are closed from Sterling to Nebraska because of wintry weather and safety concerns.

The Colorado Department of Transportation and the State Patrol announced the closure about 4 p.m. Saturday.

A is posted for extreme northeastern Colorado until 6 a.m. Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. Snow, blowing snow, winds up to 45 mph and accumulation of 4 to 8 inches are expected. Sterling, Julesburg and Akron are among the Eastern Plains towns within the warning area.
