More than a dozen homes in Jefferson County were briefly evacuated Monday afternoon due to a severed gas line.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said one person was taken into custody after the individual crashed into a residence while fleeing the scene of a crash near 9004 West Coco Drive in Littleton.

A gas line was severed during the crash, authorities said. There are no injuries associated with the vehicle running into the home.

Approximately fifteen homes were evacuated in response to the gas leak, the sheriff’s office said. The sheriff’s office, in a 6:16 p.m. tweet, said the evacuation order would be lifted “momentarily.”

Xcel Energy, in an email, said the utility company shut off natural gas at the location and crews also shut off electric service to the impacted home, citing structural damage.

No customers lost natural gas service, Michelle Aguayo, an Xcel spokesperson, said.
