Denver's VFW Post 1, first VFW in U.S., gets creative to bring new members

The nation’s first VFW isn’t a smoky bar with vets telling war stories. Here’s what Post 1 in Denver is doing instead.

In 1913, the Army of the Philippines merged with an Ohio and Pennsylvania-based organization, the American Veterans of Foreign Service. The new conglomerate would be called the Veterans of Foreign Wars, with Denver’s group becoming Post 1.
