United Airlines flight lands at Denver International Airport after losing wheel during takeoff

A United Airlines flight landed safely at Denver International Airport on Monday after the plane lost a wheel while taking off from Los Angeles International Airport.

Flight 1001 lost one wheel during takeoff from LAX at 6:53 a.m., according to flight data and a statement from United Airlines.

The Boeing 757-200 was carrying 174 passengers and seven crew when it landed at its destination of DIA at 10:51 a.m.

The wheel was recovered in Los Angeles, and United officials are investigating what caused the incident, according to airline officials.

No injuries were reported on the plane or on the ground.
