Huge move from PJ Locke. — Kelly
Vance Joseph has been in his bag all season and that drive was no different. Blitzed Rodgers twice, then played coverage on third down, then brought the house on fourth down. Broncos offense with a chance to put this away now. — Gabriel
Three-and-out (2:01 p.m.): Denver was only able to kill about a minute and a half off the clock on that drive. New York has the ball at their own 33 with 2:31 to go. — Nguyen
Big sack (1:57 p.m.): With the Jets driving, Malcolm Roach and Jonah Elliss sacked Aaron Rodgers. The ball looked like it was coming out with Rodgers going down, but with no challenges remaining, Denver has to settle for the punt. — Nguyen
Field goal (1:49 p.m.): Wil Lutz nails a 47-yard field goal to give Denver the lead. Broncos 10, Jets 9 with 8:55 to go in the game. — Nguyen

— Denver Broncos (@Broncos)
Somehow Jets lost Sutton in coverage. He lined up on the left and drifted to the back of the end zone. He was wide open. Broncos lead 7-6 on Nix’s first TD pass of his career. NFL is bananas. Broncos had one of the worst halves in franchise history… But defense kept them in it. One drive 11 plays, 87 yards, puts them ahead with 3:08 left in third. — Renck
Bo Nix’s first passing touchdown as a pro feels like a momentum-changer. We’ll see. — Kelly
Broncos just like that have the lead. 7-6 with 3:08 left in the third quarter.
Denver’s first three third-down conversions of the game power an 11-play, 87-yard drive. — Gabriel
Big gain (1:17 p.m.): Troy Franklin should have probably stopped there to draw interference. Ball was underthrown.. Nix responds with his best pass of the day.. Missile to Sutton over the middle for 29 yards. — Renck
Bo Nix loves the dagger concept and that was a big-time throw to Sutton for 29 yards. — Gabriel
Run, Denver, run (1:14 p.m.): New drive, three straight runs for 17 yards for Denver. — Nguyen
PSII (1:08 p.m.): Garrett Wilson has two catches for eight yards. I call that the Pat Surtain effect. — McFadden
Rodgers (1:06 p.m.): Aaron Rodgers outside the pocket is essentially the only offense in this game. — Gabriel
Problems continue (12:59 p.m.): Nix made one accurate throw to Sutton for 23 yards but then put the ball (and Sutton) in harm’s way down the field and also airmailed Javonte Williams in the flat on third-and-long. Wiping his hands as he trotted off the field. Grip certainly seems to be an issue for Nix so far today — Gabriel
Williams problem (12:57 p.m.): Quincy Williams has been a problem today. — McFadden
Quinnen Williams against Luke Wattenberg is not a fair fight. — Gabriel
Halftime analysis — Jets 6, Broncos 0
Parker Gabriel, beat writer: The Broncos are averaging 5.3 yards per carry and Bo Nix has -7 passing. It’s raining, Nix appears to be having issues with gripping the football and yet Denver is at 16 dropbacks and 9 called run plays at halftime. Not sure how to square that one.
Ryan McFadden, beat writer: I don’t think anyone expected both offenses to be this bad. Denver’s defense is the only reason why the team still has a chance to win. You have to wonder if Payton is willing to make a QB change to win the game if Nix keeps playing like this.
Troy Renck, sports columnist: Broncos have no points, 3 first downs and 46 yards. Per Associated Press, Bo Nix is first QB to throw for negative yardage in first half with at least 3 completions since 1991. Nix is 7-for-15 for -7 yards. Broncos have to commit to the run, have Nix wear a glove and try to win on a turnover.
Second-quarter updates
Field goal (12:39 p.m.): Greg Zuerlein nails a 35-yard field goal to close the first half. Jets 6, Broncos 0 at halftime. — Nguyen
Homecoming (12:38 p.m.): John Franklin-Myers is having a day. He’s been jawing with Rodgers all afternoon. Defense continues to show its fangs. — Renck
Pretty, pretty good (12:35 p.m.): In case anyone forgot, Aaron Rodgers is really good at football. — McFadden
Aaron Rodgers doing Hall of Fame stuff on this two-minute drive. Broncos probably need to keep New York out of the end zone the way this one’s going. — Gabriel
Rookie numbers (12:30 p.m.): Broncos’ Bo Nix is 7-for-15 for minus-7 yards. They have 16 dropbacks and 9 runs, per my man Parker. Two things. Nix needs to put a glove on. And if remains uncomfortable and have a chance to win, you might have to sit him. Doesn’t mean he loses the job. But this is a winnable game. — Renck
Deja vu (12:27 p.m.): Jets defense mirroring what Seattle did. Have no fear of anything vertical. So in shell with 11 players within five yards of line of scrimmage. They are also tackling extremely well, just like Seattle did. Nix looks uncomfortable in the rain. And the lack of playmakers shows up yet again. — Renck
Ground and pound (12:25 p.m.): Broncos’ only hope so far is running the ball. — Gabriel
Maybe the Broncos should just run the ball for the entire game. — McFadden
Rough drive (12:18 p.m.): After a pair of big runs to open the drive, the Broncos gained just 6 more yards, burned a timeout and lost another one after a failed challenge. — Nguyen
Terrible football (12:02 p.m.): This is the worst half of football I’ve seen in my life. — McFadden
Three-and-out (12:01 p.m.): Three plays for 2 yards means another punt for Denver. No first downs on the day for the Broncos. — Nguyen
Slow offense (11:58 a.m.): 21 total yards of offense after the first quarter. Is that good? — Kelly
Field goal (11:57 a.m.): New York settles for a 23-yard field goal by Greg Zuerlein. Jets 3, Broncos 0 with 14:51 to go in the second quarter. — Nguyen
Going for it (11:55 a.m.): After Aaron Rodgers throws it away on third-and-goal, the Jets went for it on fourth down. But a false start pushes the ball back. — Nguyen
Tyler Badie hurt (11:53 a.m.): Tyler Badie still reeling from that hit, which is concerning. — Kelly
Scary scene on sideline as Broncos RB Tyler Badie is on stretcher getting carted off. — Renck
First-quarter analysis — Broncos 0, Jets 0
Parker Gabriel, beat writer: What the heck?
Ryan McFadden, beat writer: I don’t think the Broncos will score an offensive touchdown today.
Troy Renck, sports columnist: First quarter over. No score. Broncos have 6 yards on 12 plays. Yes, 6 on 12. Defense has been outstanding. Offense has been cringe worthy.
First-quarter updates
PI (11:47 a.m.): Aaron Rodgers threw the ball into coverage on third-and-long and got just what he wanted out of it: A Riley Moss DPI.
First-and-goal at the 1 for New York. — Gabriel
No first down for you (11:45 a.m.): Almost had a Jets first down, but a holding call negated it. — Gabriel
Fumbled (11:44 a.m.): Short pass to Badie. Williams causes fumble and Saleh nearly recovered he ran onto field so fast to congratulate defense. With their field position, Broncos should have at least six points and they have 0 first downs. Just embarrassing. — Renck
You like slow offenses? (11:42 a.m.): This has been one of the worst quarters of offense between two teams I have ever seen. And I covered every down of the Broncos’ 2022 season. — Renck
The refs have basically figured that if either team moves the ball forward they probably also committed a penalty. — Gabriel
Mims hurt (11:40 a.m.): Marvin Mims Jr. was walloped by Irvin Charles when he was trying to catch the ball. A 15-yard penalty was given to the Jets. — Nguyen
Three-and-out (11:37 a.m.): New York opened its drive with a 9-yard pass. And then they moved backward. — Nguyen
Slow offenses (11:35 a.m.): A combined 18 plays for 0 yards and we still have 6:14 to go in the first quarter. This is going to be a long afternoon. — McFadden
Another three-and-out (11:30 a.m.): A pair of runs for 7 yards followed by a Bo Nix incompletion has Denver punting again. — Nguyen
Through three drives apiece:
Aaron Rodgers: 1/4 for 7 yards
Bo Nix: 2/6 for -5 yards
— Gabriel
Star relief (11:27 a.m.): Justin Strnad is playing with his hair on fire. One of the all-time good dudes. Love talking baseball with him. He is capitalizing on his playing time, showing explosiveness and power. — Renck
Still time to get Justin Strnad on your All-Pro ballots this year. — Gabriel
Three-and-out (11:21 a.m.): Tyler Badie gets Broncos’ first rush and goes for 0 yards. Short pass to McLaughlin goes for minus-1 yards. And on third down, pass incomplete. So Broncos have minus-5 yards in two drives and the Jets have 0 yards in two drives. Good times. — Renck
First team to six points wins. — McFadden
MetLife Stadium is the place to be unless you like offense or sunshine. — Gabriel
Slowing down the Jets (11:21 a.m.): Aaron Rodgers is 1 for 3 with 7 yards passing. Breece Hall has two carries for a yard. Denver has done a solid job at neutralizing New York to start the game. Now, it’s time for the Broncos’ offense to capitalize. — McFadden

Still good (11:16 a.m.): Ja’Quan McMillian: Still good. — Gabriel
Three-and-out (11:10 a.m.): A penalty to start the drive, followed by 1 of 3 completed passes for minus-4 yards. The punt was great, though, as the Jets will start at their own 1-yard line. — Nguyen
Defense: Quite good
Special teams: Quite good
Offense: Quite not
— Gabriel
Embarrassing first drive for Broncos. They take over at 30-yard line and lose 14 yards on a penalty and a pass. A pass that included Greg Dulcich blocking. Yikes that was bad. Get gifted 3 points and decide, “Nah, we are good.” — Renck
Jets cornerback DJ Reed read that screen pass perfectly and stopped Troy Franklin for a loss of four yards. Terrible drive for the offense after the defense put them in a great position to come away with at least three points. — McFadden
Bad start (11:08 a.m.): This will surely surprise all of you, but the Broncos offense took over with great field position and immediately went backward thanks to a penalty. WR Troy Franklin tagged for OPI on the first play. — Gabriel
Turnover (11:06 a.m.): Brandon Jones forces fumble and its recovered by Moss.. That Hackett drive brought back a lot of great memories of 2022. I kid because I care. — Renck

Sacked (11:04 a.m.): Cody Barton calling the defensive signals and Justin Strnad starts alongside him. His first defensive snap since 2021. Strnad sacks him for a loss of 8. That is how you announce your presence. — Renck
Justin Strnad gets the start and sacks Aaron Rodgers on his first defensive snap since 2021. Hello. — Gabriel
Coin toss (11 a.m.): Broncos have their five remaining captains at midfield for the coin toss.
Denver wins the toss and defers to the second half. — Gabriel
Pre-game updates
Cold start (10:58 a.m.): It is a late-arriving-in-the-stadium crowd at misty and soggy MetLife Stadium. Could help Broncos if they get off to a good start. Crowd isn’t exactly electric here. — Renck
ILBs (10:31 a.m.): Couple reps in pregame with the No. 1 defense feature Cody Barton and Justin Strnad at ILB.
Levelle Bailey and Kristian Welch up with the No. 2s.
Strnad hasn’t played a defensive snap since 2021, but that looks set to change today. — Gabriel
Broncos inactives today (9:33 a.m.):
- QB Zach Wilson (3rd QB)
- S JL Skinner (ankle)
- RB Blake Watson
- WR Devaughn Vele
- TE Lucas Krull
- CB Kris Abrams-Draine
- DL Eyioma Uwazurike
No surprises here, though it’s notable Vele’s been inactive since Week 1. He had the rib injury but has been a full practice participant the past two weeks. His eight catches (albeit for 39 yards) in Week 1 feels like a long time ago already. — Gabriel
Reunion (8:56 a.m.): Alex Singleton went through his normal field walk around with teammates, his right knee in a big brace as he awaits surgery. He ran into former Jets coach Nathaniel Hackett, who always walks fields or steps before games. Hackett gave Singleton a big hug. Hackett is a hugger. — Renck
Good morning from rainy New Jersey and MetLife Stadium (8:55 a.m.): The Broncos are on the field for every early warmups. Saw former Jets QB Zach Wilson having a chat with former Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett down on the field here more than two hours before kickoff.
The weather suggests a run-the-ball type of afternoon, but we’ll see about that. These two teams have also generated among the most pressure on opposing QBs in the early going of the season. Whoever generates more today will be in good shape. — Gabriel
Scouting report (8:55 a.m.): Check out how the Broncos match up with the Jets in Ryan McFadden’s scouting report.
Game predictions
Parker Gabriel, beat writer: Jets 24, Broncos 13
Bo Nix and the Denver offense made progress in Week 3 against Tampa Bay. This New York defense, though, is in a different class. They pressure the quarterback with four and have plenty of resources left over to cover. Vance Joseph’s defense is off to a great start and should play well even without Alex Singleton, but itap a tall task to win back-to-back on the road, especially with a still-iffy offense.
Ryan McFadden, beat writer: Broncos 23, Jets 20
I know I’m in the minority here. Breece Hall has a good track record against the Broncos, Aaron Rodgers is a first-ballot Hall of Famer, and the Jets’ pass rush will test Bo Nix. But I have faith in Vance Joseph and Denver’s defense, even after losing Alex Singleton for the season. This matchup will end with a game-winning field goal from Wil Lutz.
Troy Renck, columnist: Broncos 20, Jets 17
There is no reason Denver should win. The Broncos offense remains spotty, Bo Nix is under construction, and the defense lost Alex Singleton. But there is something about the Broncos bonding at The Greenbrier Resort that will make them see red with multiple takeaways and a big game from Tyler Badie. After knocking the smug smiles off the faces of Aaron Rodgers and Nathaniel Hackett, Sean Payton will have Denver practice in Almost Heaven, West Virginia, for all remaining road games.
Sean Keeler, columnist: Jets 23, Broncos 15
Welcome to the party, Kwon Alexander. No pressure. Looked up the last time Alex Singleton didn’t suit up for the orange and blue. Week 4 of the ’22 season, at Vegas. Didn’t end well. The Raiduhs rambled for 212 rushing yards on 38 carries. The Silver and Black and Josh McDaniels sent Nathaniel Hackett home with a 32-23 loss. Hackettap Jets probably won’t hit the 30 mark in this one, but darned if he won’t try.
Broncos-Jets NFL Week 4: Must-reads
Renck: Aaron Rodgers-Nathaniel Hackett pairing may have delivered more Broncos wins, but would it have been worth it?
The Greenbrier Resort sits on 11,000 acres and features four golf courses, 20 dining options and one coach with an office. Sean Payton helped design the football footprint that led the New Orleans Saints to escape the heat, if not the internet, for three straight training camps here beginning in 2014.
As Payton rode around in his golf cart surveying the grounds this week, often flanked by family and friends, it is clear why he loves West Virginia.
But with apologies to John Denver, Payton’s “almost heaven” almost never happened. As the Broncos prepare to face the New York Jets, it is fascinating to consider the butterfly effect when looking at the franchise’s history over the past two years.
What if hiring Nathaniel Hackett would have resulted in Denver acquiring Aaron Rodgers, as was the fingers-crossed hope when he took the job? Read Troy Renck’s full column.
apB Riley Moss’ fast corrections give secondary scary potential: “I’m proud of what he’s done”
Being a fast learner is great. Being a fast corrector, Vance Joseph says, is even better.
Thatap what the Broncos have in cornerback Riley Moss.
The second-year man is getting his first crack at real playing time as the starter opposite Pat Surtain II, and he’s catching on rapidly. Moss played fine in his first game at Seattle but allowed several tight, contested catches to veteran Tyler Lockett. Since then, he’s only improved, Parker Gabriel reports. Read the full story.
Broncos Journal: Denver should bring thank-you card to Jets on Sunday for gift-wrapping DL John Franklin-Myers
Why bother putting a card in the mail when you can just deliver a thank-you message in person?
Thatap what the Broncos should do Sunday at MetLife Stadium. Tell the New York Jets thank you. If they spend a few extra bucks on one of those 3D pop-up cards, all the better.
Thanks for the high-quality defensive lineman — among the scarcest resources in football — for the bargain-basement price, Parker Gabriel reports. Read the full story.
