Classes at an Aurora elementary and middle school will resume Friday after a broken fire sprinkler flooded several classrooms and closed the school Thursday.

Three classrooms at Aurora Quest K-8 were “heavily impacted” by flooding when a fitting on the sprinkler system failed early Thursday morning, Aurora Public Schools officials said in a news release.

Students in those classrooms will relocate to other areas of the building.

At about 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Aurora Public Schools officials sent out a release asking parents to not bring their children to the campus at 17315 East 2nd Ave. because of flooding.

Any students who had already boarded buses on Thursday were taken to the school and kept in a safe area of the building until parents could come pick them up, school officials said.

The problem with the sprinkler system was not caused by recent cold weather and other areas of the school were not impacted, district officials said. The broken fitting was fixed Thursday.
