The Colorado State Patrol is looking for a driver who shot into another vehicle in a suspected act of road rage early Monday morning just off Interstate 25 in the Berthoud area.

The driver whose vehicle was shot at was not injured in the incident.

Troopers responded to a call at about 1:13 a.m. Monday reporting the incident that started on northbound I-25 near the Berthoud exit, according to a CSP news release.

Initial reports show a maroon Kia Sorento, with a Colorado temporary tag, was traveling northbound on I-25, straddling the center line of both lanes, when a motorist driving a Subaru Legacy approached the Sorento from behind and honked, the news release said.  The Sorento moved into the left lane as the Subaru passed in the right lane.

The Sorento then began to follow the Subaru closely, before backing off and shining a laser light at the driver of the Subaru, according to the CSP.

The Subaru left I-25 at exit 250 at Berthoud, and the driver of the Sorento followed, and while doing so, fired multiple rounds from a firearm at the Subaru, the news release said. One round went through the glass of the back window and into the passenger compartment of the Subaru, hitting the driver’s seat.

The Sorento then fled from the scene.

The Sorento is listed as stolen out of Denver, the CSP news release said.

Anyone who sees or recognizes the vehicle is asked to contact 911 or Colorado State Patrol dispatch at 303-239-4501, but should not engage with the driver or any occupants as they are considered to be armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting incident who has not already spoken with investigators is asked to contact Colorado State Patrol dispatch at the same number and reference case number IS-250391.
