Colorado road conditions: Snow shuts down highways in mountains

Snow and ice shut down several highways in Colorado’s mountains Thursday morning, including part of Interstate 70, according to state transportation officials.

As of noon, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation, road closures included:

  • between Exit 180 for east Vail and Exit 190 for Vail Pass Summit for safety concerns.
  • between milemarker 222 near Grizzly Peak and Interstate 70 for safety concerns.
  • The from Exit 205 for Silverthorne to Exit 203 for Frisco for a stalled vehicle that spun out.

Westbound I-70 was also closed from Exit 232 for Empire Junction to Exit 228 in Georgetown for safety concerns, but the highway reopened shortly before 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
