Educators are striking after district officials refused to reinstate the local teachers union’s collective bargaining agreement or to recognize classified employees in the union, according to the

The strike will take place at all five schools in the district, which serves Sheridan and parts of Englewood and Littleton. The Sheridan Educators Association, which is made up of teachers, mental health providers, bus drivers and other staff, said it expects close to 100 members to participate in the strike.

The union, which voted to authorize a strike in early March, has said that district officials told staff in December they no longer have a union and refused to transmit teacher dues to the association.

District officials sent a letter to families Tuesday announcing their decision to close schools at least through Friday because of the strike.

“Over the past several days, we have worked diligently to keep our schools open and operating for students and families,” the district said in the letter. “However, due to current and anticipated staff absences, we will not have enough personnel to safely maintain normal school operations.”

The district will provide to-go lunches to students and families at Fort Logan Northgate while schools are closed, the district said in its letter.

Sheridan has 997 students as of the 2025-26 academic year, according to state data.

°Õ³ó±ðÌý which announced the plans Tuesday, said the strike will begin April 1 at all five schools in the district, including Sheridan High School.

The union, which is made up of teachers, mental health providers, bus drivers and other staff, voted earlier this month to authorize a strike. The Sheridan Educators Association has said district officials refused to reinstate the union’s collective bargaining agreement or to recognize classified employees in the union.

“…The district will be monitoring the situation daily,” said Polly Plancarte, an executive administrative assistant for the district in a statement. “Our priority is to be as least disruptive as possible for students and families, and our goal is to keep schools open.  However, if safety and adequate supervision become a concern, we may need to consider closing school(s).”

The union said that in December, district officials told employees they no longer have a union and refused to transmit teacher dues to the association.

“Educators at Sheridan schools have been working without a contract since August and several have been disciplined or laid off for speaking out about district issues, including safety concerns,” the union said in a statement Tuesday.

Between 74 and 170 educators are expected to participate in the strike, the union said.

The district has 997 students as of the 2025-26 academic year, according to state data.
