The Dodgers superstar put on another show-stopping performance against Colorado in Monday’s series opener at Coors Field, going 4-for-5 with two homers in Los Angeles’ 11-5 blowout win. It was the latest evidence that the Japanese sensation has been a Rockies killer throughout his nine-year big-league career, and especially in LoDo since he joined the Dodgers in 2024.

Amid Colorado’s freefall to becoming baseball’s worst team over the past four seasons, the Dodgers have gone scorched earth on the Rockies. In the 50 games since the start of the 2023 season, which began the Rockies’ streak of 100-loss seasons, Los Angeles is 39-11 against the Rockies, including 18-8 at Coors Field.

Ohtani’s bat has been central in that dominance. As Dodgers broadcaster Eric Karros ahead of Monday’s game, “Whenever (Ohtani) sees that Rockies uniform, he gets turned on.”

Consider the following eye-popping statistics:

• Ohtani has a 21-game hit streak at Coors Field, batting .413 (38-for-92) with nine homers and 24 RBIs during the stretch.

• In 25 career games at Coors Field, Ohtani is slashing .398/.459/.786 with a 1.244 OPS, nine homers, 28 runs scored and five steals (no caught stealing). That slash line is Ohtani’s best output in any MLB ballpark that he’s played at least 15 games in, and it’s the highest OPS by an opposing hitter at Coors Field among players with at least 100 plate appearances. Comparing against a larger sample size, for players with at least 200 plate appearances at the stadium, for an opposing hitter are the Cubs’ Sammy Sosa (1.183), Adrian Beltre (1.170 with multiple teams) and the Giants’ Barry Bonds (1.162), while Hall of Famer Larry Walker holds the Rockies’ record at 1.172.

• In 48 total games against the Rockies, Ohtani is slashing .378/.459/.767 with a 1.226 OPS, 19 homers, 48 RBIs, 11 doubles, 54 runs scored and 13 steals (one caught stealing). That’s the highest average, on-base percentage, and OPS versus any opponent, and the second-highest slugging behind the .786 mark that Ohtani posted against the White Sox.

• Of note from Monday, Ohtani’s first homer came against fellow Japanese baseball star Tomoyuki Sugano, who has been far and away the Rockies’ top starter this season. But Ohtani has dominated his countryman in the majors, going 7-for-11 with four homers against the right-hander. After taking Sugano deep 428 feet to left-center in the fifth inning, the slugger launched a 452-foot shot to center off Juan Mejia in the sixth that With that, he now has 26 career homers of 450 feet or more (including the postseason) since the 2021 season, seven more such bombs than anyone else in the majors.

The silver lining in Ohtani’s offensive dominance against the Rockies is that, in a very small sample size, he hasn’t yet conquered them with his arm. Ohtani — who is currently not pitching for Los Angeles as he continues — has only made three starts against Colorado, going 2-1 with a 3.71 ERA and 15 strikeouts across those outings.

But he was blown up in his one career game pitching at Coors Field, on Aug. 20 of last year. In the 8-3 Rockies win, Ohtani took the loss after Colorado blasted him for five runs on nine hits in four innings.

Ohtani’s 2 homers ignite a Dodgers breakout at Coors Field as Snell shines in 11-5 win over Rockies /2026/08/17/dodgers-rockies-score-ohtani-sugano/ Tue, 18 Aug 2026 03:47:46 +0000 /?p=7834924 Shohei Ohtani homered twice to help spark a slumping Dodgers offense, Blake Snell struck out five over six innings, and Los Angeles beat the Colorado Rockies 11-5 on Monday night.

Max Muncy added a three-run homer as the Dodgers found the perfect way to break out of their recent funk — playing at hitter friendly Coors Field. They entered Monday averaging 3.4 runs per game over a stretch that saw them lose 11 of 16.

The 11 runs were the most by LA since a 12-7 win over San Diego on July 2.

Snell (1-1) allowed two hits and one run in his second start since returning from elbow surgery that sidelined him for three months. The lefty ran his scoreless innings streak against the Rockies to 27 before allowing a run in the third. Colorado scored on three walks and a fielder’s choice.

Michael Lorenzen, last in baseball with a 7.08 ERA, designated for assignment by Rockies

Muncy extended the lead to 5-0 in the third with a homer that went an estimated distance of 461 feet. Ohtani had a solo shot in the fifth and a two-run homer in the sixth. He finished 4 for 5.

Ohtani has now hit safely in 21 straight games at Coors Field. Over the streak, he has nine homers and 24 RBIs while hitting .413.

Tomoyuki Sugano (12-6) lasted five innings and allowed six runs. The righty continues to struggle against his fellow countryman Ohtani, who went 2 for 3 against Sugano with a homer. He's now 7 for 11 with four homers when facing Sugano.

Infielder/outfielder Troy Johnston pitched a scoreless ninth that included a walk and hitting Tommy Edman. Dodgers reliever Edwin Díaz gave up three runs in the ninth.

Up next

Dodgers lefty Eric Lauer (6-1, 3.48 ERA) will throw on Tuesday, while the Rockies go with righty Ryan Feltner (5-6, 5.59).

Rockies rally past the Dodgers 4-3 after 2 errors in the eighth /2026/07/08/rockies-dodgers-score-ohtani-300-hr/ /2026/07/08/rockies-dodgers-score-ohtani-300-hr/#respond Wed, 08 Jul 2026 15:45:42 +0000 /?p=7802834&preview=true&preview_id=7802834 By BETH HARRIS

LOS ANGELES — Shohei Ohtani hit his but two errors by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the eighth inning led to three runs by the Colorado Rockies, who rallied for a 4-3 victory Tuesday night.

Pitching with a 3-1 lead, reliever Will Klein (3-3) had a potential inning-ending double play ball that turned into a run-scoring error by shortstop Miguel Rojas. Then the Rockies turned a squeeze play into two more runs, taking a 4-3 lead when Rojas misplayed a throw to third.

Tyler Freeman grounded into a fielder’s choice to Rojas, scoring Kyle Karros, who walked.

Jake McCarthy hit a sacrifice bunt to third against reliever Jack Dreyer. Cole Carrigg, who singled, scored on second baseman Alex Freeland’s throwing error that also brought home Freeman.

The Dodgers had the tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position when Freeland singled and stole second against reliever Jordan Romano and pinch-hitter Teoscar Hernandez walked. But Ohtani popped up to third, Andy Pages flied out to right and Freddie Freeman went down swinging to end the game.

Juan Meijia (2-6) got the win with two innings of one-run relief. Romano earned his sixth save.

The Dodgers led 1-0 on Ohtani’s home run leading off the bottom of the first inning against Rockies starter Michael Lorenzen.

Ohtani is the first Japanese-born player in the majors to reach the milestone and the fifth-fastest in history to do so. It took him 1,102 games to play for the Los Angeles Angels and the Dodgers; New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge was the quickest at 955 games.

The Dodgers took a 2-0 lead on Lorenzen’s bases-loaded walk to Pages in the fifth.

Colorado closed to 2-1 on McCarthy’s RBI groundout in the sixth.

Freeland’s RBI single extended the Dodgers’ lead to 3-1 in the sixth.

Dodgers edge Rockies as Rushing delivers dramatic 11th-inning walk-off /2026/07/06/rockies-dodgers-score-rushing-carrigg/ /2026/07/06/rockies-dodgers-score-rushing-carrigg/#respond Tue, 07 Jul 2026 05:48:34 +0000 /?p=7801753&preview=true&preview_id=7801753 By BETH HARRIS

LOS ANGELES — Dalton Rushing singled in the winning run against a drawn-in infield in the 11th inning, rallying the Dodgers to an 8-7 win over the Colorado Rockies on Monday night in Los Angeles’ first extra-innings game of the season.

The Dodgers improved to 60-32, the first team in the majors this season with 60 wins. They were the only team in the majors not to have played extras. It was also their first extra-inning game since Game 7 of last year’s World Series, when they beat Toronto for their second straight championship.

Teoscar Hernández started the bottom of the 11th at second base. Max Muncy was intentionally walked by Jimmy Herget (0-3). Pinch-hitter Tommy Edman’s sacrifice bunt moved Hernández to third and he scored on Rushing’s third hit of the game.

The Dodgers tied the game 7-7 in the 10th. Andy Pages started the inning at second and took third on Freddie Freeman’s groundout to first against Brennan Bernardino. Pages scored on second baseman Edouard Julien’s fielding error of Mookie Betts. Betts took second on Tucker’s single before Hernández lined into an inning-ending double play, with Tucker doubled off first.

Jake McCarthy’s groundout to first base gave the Rockies a 7-6 lead in the 10th.

Cole Carrigg began the inning at second base and took third on Tyler Freeman’s sacrifice bunt off Dodgers reliever Edgardo Henriquez (3-0). McCarthy grounded to first and Freddie Freeman stepped on the bag and fired to the plate, where Carrigg scored under the tag of Rushing.

There appeared to be heated words exchanged. Both dugouts emptied and both bullpens came part of the way onto the field. Muncy ran in to move Rushing away from the mound before calm was restored.

The Rockies tied the game 6-all in the ninth. Kyle Karros had an RBI double off Dodgers closer Tanner Scott. Carrigg’s two-run double to deep center with the bases loaded scored the tying runs. Hunter Goodman was also called safe at the plate, which would have been the go-ahead run, but the Dodgers challenged the call.

They got the call overturned and then Rockies challenged a different aspect of the play, claiming Rushing had violated the blocking the plate rule. But Colorado lost the challenge, forcing extra innings tied 6-6.

Shohei Ohtani drove in four runs, highlighted by his 299th career homer.

Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani no-hits Rockies for six innings, hits leadoff home run /2026/05/27/dodgers-shohei-ohtani-no-hits-rockies-for-six-innings-hits-leadoff-home-run/ Thu, 28 May 2026 05:44:41 +0000 /?p=7770225 Tyler Freeman rescued the Rockies.

The right-fielder punched a single to right field with two outs in the eighth inning off lefty Tanner Scott to bust up the Dodgers’ combined no-hitter on Wednesday night in Los Angeles. But Freeman couldn’t save the Rockies from a 4-1 loss at the hands of Shohei Ohtani.

The Dodgers’ super-duper superstar put on an incredible show. Not only did he pitch six no-hit innings, but he also led off the Dodgers’ first inning with a 424 homer run to center off of fellow Japanese native Tomoyuki Sugano.

Ohtani became the first pitcher to hit a home run and allow no hits through the first six innings since the Cubs’ Jake Arrieta on Sept. 27, 2015.

The Dodgers, who outscored Colorado 24-10 in a three-game sweep, have beaten the Rockies 10 straight times in Los Angeles.

Key moments: The first inning decided the game. After Ohtani’s leadoff homer, Freddie Freeman hit a one-out homer to left-center off Sugano to make it 2-0.

Colorado scored its lone run off Ohtani in the fourth. TJ Rumfield drew a walk, Ohtani plunked Hunter Goodman, Troy Johnston’s fielder’s choice groundout moved Rumfield to third, and Willi Castro’s groundout scored Rumfield.

Who’s hot: Ohtani, of course, improved to 5-2 on the mound, even though his ERA actually rose from 0.75 to 0.82. His home run was his ninth, and at that point, he was 7 for 8 with three homers and three doubles against Sugano (including both the Nippon Professional Baseball and the majors).

Sugano (4 2/3 innings, three runs allowed on six hits) struck out Ohtani looking in the second inning and got him to ground out to first in the fifth inning.

Who’s not: Centerfielder Jake McCarthy, who went 0 for 3 and struck out three times against Ohtani. And infielder Edouard Julien’s slump keeps getting deeper. He went 0 for 2 with a strikeout. Julien is hitless over his last 34 at-bats, and is 1 for 40 over his last 15 games. The franchise record for consecutive hitless at-bats is 35, set by Ryan McMahon in 2025.

Worth noting: As impressive as Ohtani was, his command was not sharp. He exited the game after throwing 99 pitches through six innings, and only 56 went for strikes. He walked four and hit Rumfield, but he struck out seven.

Dodgers blast five home runs in 15-6 rout of sliding Rockies /2026/05/26/dodgers-blast-five-home-runs-in-15-6-rout-of-rockies/ Wed, 27 May 2026 05:15:59 +0000 /?p=7769095 There is nothing confidential about it; the Rockies are bad in L.A.

They lost 15-6 on Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium and have lost eight straight at the venerable ballpark. Colorado is 92-177 all-time at Dodger Stadium.

Speaking of bad. Rockies lefty Kyle Freeland had nothing working, and the Rockies trailed 8-1 when he got the hook after four innings.

The final score was deceiving because the Rockies scored five runs in the ninth off infielder Miguel Rojas, who was pitching in relief to save wear and tear on the Dodgers’ bullpen. Included in Colorado’s faux rally against Rojas’ eephus pitches were home runs by Brett Sullivan, the catcher who finished the game on the mound for the third time in a week, and by Kyle Karros.

Key moments: There were three of them, all at the expense of Freeland: Mookie Betts hit a 404-foot, two-run homer to left-center in the first inning to give the Dodgers a 2-0 lead. Enrique Hernandez led off the third with a 371-foot homer to left-center to make it 3-1. Two batters later, Andy Pages hit another solo homer, this one a 418-foot blast to center to make it 4-1. Game, set, match, and the rout was on.

Who’s hot: Willi Castro, who got the start at first base, hit 2 for 3, boosting his average to .264. Castro has five multi-hit games in his last eight starts.

Catcher Hunter Goodman is not actually hot, but he did lead off the second with a home run to center off left-hander Eric Lauer. It was Goodman’s 12th homer.

Who’s not: Freeland, obviously, who has an 8.08 ERA after getting shelled for eight runs on nine hits in four innings. Add in the three homers he served up Tuesday night, and the lefty has given up 12 home runs in nine starts.  Ten of those homers have come in May.

Right-handed reliever Zach Agnos, so good in his first professional start last Thursday at Arizona — five scoreless innings with one hit, one walk, and four strikeouts — got blasted by the Dodgers. They knocked him around for seven runs on six hits in just two innings. Included in the onslaught was a three-run homer by Betts and a two-run homer by Will Smith in Los Angeles’ five-run sixth.

Worth noting:  Wednesday night’s series finale will feature two Japanese superstars on the mound. Colorado will start right-hander Tomoyuki Sugano, and Los Angeles will start two-way phenom Shohei Ohtani, who enters the game 4-2 with a minuscule 0.75 ERA.

Colorado is 6-18 in May and has been outscored 158-91, a minus-67 run differential.

Rockies’ wild relievers blow lead in gut-punch 5-3 loss to Dodgers /2026/05/25/dodgers-5-rockies-3-wild-colorado-bullpen-blows-leadevers-blow-lead-in-gut-punch-5-4-loss-to-dodgers/ Tue, 26 May 2026 04:34:30 +0000 /?p=7768298 Give the Rockies points for creativity. They consistently find unique and heartbreaking ways to lose.

Their 5-3 loss to the Dodgers on Monday night provided the latest example.

The Rockies took a 3-1 lead in the seventh when Ezequiel Tovar led off with a 431-foot homer off reliever Kyle Hurt. It was a big moment for a couple of reasons. First, it was Tovar’s first homer in 187 plate appearances, the longest homerless drought of his career. Second, Los Angeles’ bullpen had not been scored upon in 11 straight games and had fired 38 consecutive scoreless innings, the longest streak by the Dodgers in the modern era (since 1901).

But the celebration in Colorado’s dugout was premature because the Dodgers scored four runs in the bottom of the frame. Back-to-back leadoff walks by reliever Juan Mejia and a hit-by-pitch by lefty reliever Brennan Bernardino provided the kindling for L.A.’s rally. It scored runs on Shohei Ohtani’s groundout, Mookie Betts’ sacrifice fly, Freddie Freeman’s RBI double, and Andy Pages’ run-scoring single.

Key moments: Colorado took a 2-1 lead in the fourth, combining a leadoff double by Tyler Freelman, an infield hit by Troy Johnston, an RBI single by Willi Castro and a sacrifice fly by Tovar.

Who’s hot: Right-hander Tanner Gordon, making his first official start of the season, gave Colorado five strong innings. He allowed one run on six hits, walked one, and fanned three. It was a nice turnaround from his last outing, when he gave up seven runs on 12 hits in 6 1/3 innings of relief vs. Texas.

Tovar’s 2-for-3, two-RBI night provided proof that he’s finally emerging from his season-long slump.

Who’s not: Catcher Hunter Goodman was 0 for 4 with three strikeouts, and his average is down to .241. His strikeout rate is 36%.

Edouard Julien, who replaced first baseman TJ Rumfield when Rumfield left the game after getting hit by a pitch in the first inning, went 0 for 2 with a walk. Julien is hitless in his last 32 at-bats and 1 for 38 over his last 14 games.

Worth noting: Rumfield, who got plunked in the right hand by Emmet Sheehan, had X-rays taken at Dodger Stadium. The X-rays were negative, although it’s not known if he’ll miss any time.

Before Monday’s game, Colorado placed left-handed pitcher Jose Quintana on the 15-day injured list with a left elbow sprain. Quintana injured his elbow in Colorado’s 9-1 loss at Arizona on Sunday. In a corresponding move, left-handed pitcher Welinton Herrera was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque. In his major league debut, he pitched a one-two-three eighth inning.

Rockies’ Jose Quintana injury in blowout loss to Diamondbacks another setback for wobbling rotation /2026/05/24/rockies-quintana-injury-diamondbacks/ Mon, 25 May 2026 00:37:53 +0000 /?p=7767418 The best thing that happened to the reeling Rockies on Sunday happened in Las Vegas.

Right-hander Ryan Feltner pitched five strong innings for Triple-A Albuquerque in a rehab start and should be returning to the big-league club soon. The Rockies desperately need him because their starting rotation is in a shambles.

Feltner, who was dealing with right ulnar nerve inflammation, allowed one run on six hits, struck out five, and walked one. He threw 67 pitches, 44 for strikes.

In their 9-1 drubbing at the hands of the Diamondbacks on Sunday at Chase Field, veteran left-hander Jose Quintana departed with one out in the second inning with a tight and painful left elbow. Before leaving the game, he was bludgeoned by Arizona, giving up six runs on six hits, including a leadoff double to Ketel Marte in the first, immediately followed by a triple by Corbin Carroll.

“It’s just elbow tightness,” manager Warren Schaeffer told reporters in Phoenix.  “His elbow tightened up on him; discomfort in there. So we had to get him out of the game.”

But Quintana, pitching on a one-year, $6 million contract, sounded a more ominous tone, telling MLB.com: “It feels pretty bad right now, quite painful. In the second inning, I felt (stress) in my elbow. That’s the first time I have felt that. It’s really frustrating to leave the game in the middle of the inning.”

Schaeffer said that there were no indications that Quintana’s elbow was bothering him heading into Sunday’s start.

“It’s just happened today,” Schaeffer said, but he did not provide more updates.

Quintana added that he felt some fatigue in his elbow while warming up before the game. He said he’s hoping for the best and expects to undergo an MRI on Monday.

“I didn’t feel any pop in (my elbow) and I don’t feel like there’s anything broken,” he said. “But I felt a lot of pain, especially with my offspeed (pitches). I felt a heaviness in the elbow.”

Quintanta, along with veteran right-hander Tomoyuki Sugano, has been the Rockies’ only reliable starter of late, especially with right-hander Chase Dollander on the injured list with elbow tightness. Entering Sunday’s game, Quintana was 1-0 with a 3.38 ERA in his four starts this month.

Dollander is expected to be shut down from throwing for at least another three weeks, so Feltner’s return is paramount. Schaeffer, however, did not say if Feltner will be rejoining the rotation later this week.

“We will be discussing that behind closed doors,” Schaeffer said, adding that he’d announce Feltner’s status on either Monday or Tuesday when the Rockies are in Los Angeles to play the Dodgers.

Overall, things have gone from mediocre to bad for Colorado. After inspiring hope with a 14-18 record in March and April, the Rockies own a 6-16 record in May. Bad starting pitching is at the root of the losses. Colorado starters are 2-13 with an 8.26 ERA. Michael Lorenzen, who, along with Quintana and Sugano, was signed as a free agent during the offseason, is 2-7 with a 7.21 ERA this season. Colorado mainstay Kyle Freeland is 1-5 with a 7.04 ERA.

Poor performance and short starts have taxed the bullpen. So much so that on Sunday, for the second time in less than a week, catcher Brett Sullivan was called to the mound to finish the game to save bullpen arms.

The Rockies lost three of four in Arizona, and all of them were close games, save for Sunday’s blowout. Arizona won 2-1 on Thursday, Colorado won 3-2 on Friday, and the D-backs prevailed, 5-4, on Saturday.

“Listen, this series, I thought we played well enough to win three out of the four games,” Schaeffer said. “Lack of execution loses one-run ballgames. They executed, and we didn’t, in general. We just need to get over that hump and start flipping those one-run games the other way.”

Red-hot TJ Rumfield breaks Rockies’ home run drought but D-Backs win 5-4 /2026/05/23/red-hot-tj-rumfield-breaks-rockies-home-run-drought-but-d-backs-win-5-4/ Sun, 24 May 2026 05:38:18 +0000 /?p=7767233 TJ Rumfield played drought-buster, but that wasn’t enough to lift the Rockies to a win in the desert on Saturday night.

Another poor start from veteran right-hander Michael Lorenzen, and hitting 1 for 9 with runners in scoring position cost Colorado in a 5-4 loss to the Diamondbacks at Chase Field.

Rumfield led off the eighth with a solo home run off Brandon Pfaadt, the first home run in 312 plate appearances for Colorado, just eight plate appearances shy of the longest drought in franchise history.

Key moments:  Arizona leadoff hitter Ketel Marte blasted a two-run, 424-foot homer off Lorenzen in the fourth to give the Diamondbacks a 5-2 lead. The ball came off Marte’s bat at 112.4 mph.

The Rockies had a chance for a big inning in the eighth, putting two men on after Rumfield’s homer, but the rally was short-circuited when Ezequiel Tovar’s bunt turned into a forceout at third, and Sterlin Thompson and Chad Stevens failed to drive in the tying run.

Who’s hot: Rumfield, who has the most hits of any rookie in the majors, went 3 for 4 and raised his average to .289 and his OPS to .819. Troy Johnston hit 2 for 3 and drove in a run in the fourth. Johnston is hitting .323.

Righty reliever Keegan Thompson made his Rockies debut and kept the Rockies in the game by pitching 2 2/3 scoreless innings. He allowed three hits and walked two, but worked his way out of trouble. Thompson did not make a big-league appearance in 2025, going 6-2 with a 4.50 ERA in 33 appearances for Triple-A Iowa in the Cubs organization. The Rockies picked him up off waivers in January.

Who’s not: Lorenzen, who saw his ERA rise from 7.03 to 7.21 after the D-backs tagged him for five runs on eight hits over five innings. However, Lorenzen struck out five while walking just one.  The right-hander entered the night with the highest ERA among pitchers with at least 10 starts. Opponents are hitting .353 off him, the highest average in the majors.

Third baseman Kyle Karros, coming off a homestand in which he hit .176 (3-17), is 0 for 9 in the first three games against Arizona, and his average is down to .200.

Worth noting: The Rockies’ lineup is limping. Infielder Willi Castro, initially slotted to start at first base and hit cleanup, was a late scratch Saturday night because of low back tightness. Castro had been swinging a solid bat of late, going 8-for-24 (.333) in his last eight games.

On Friday, the Rockies placed outfielder Mickey Moniak on the 10-day injured list with right ankle tendinitis. Moniak is hitting .280 and leads the team in home runs (12) and RBIs (28).

Rockies take step backward in sloppy, 12-3 loss to Dodgers /2026/04/20/rockies-dodgers-score-errors-ohtani/ Tue, 21 Apr 2026 03:39:35 +0000 /?p=7488914 The 2026 Rockies aren’t making a great leap forward.  Baby steps seem more likely.

Monday night, in a 12-3 loss to the Dodgers at Coors Field, they stumbled over some familiar obstacles. Namely, ineffective starting pitching, sloppy defense, and a lack of clutch hits.

Plus, Los Angeles third baseman Max Muncy punished Rockies pitching, as he did throughout the series, by hitting two home runs in a 4-for-4 performance.

All of that cost the Rockies a chance to win their first series from the Dodgers since June 27-29, 2022. Instead, they had to settle for a split of the four-game set.

“It wasn’t the cleanest game, and we didn’t play great defense, which was uncharacteristic for us,” manager Warren Schaeffer said. “It was one to forget.”

Colorado, fueled by two straight wins over Los Angeles, came out of the gate hot. Jordan Beck led off with a double off lefty Justin Wrobleski, and Brenton Doyle immediately drove Beck home with a double of his own.

Beck, who’s received irregular playing time this season, made the most of his opportunity, hitting 3 for 4 and boosting his average from .122 to .178.

But the first inning was the Rockies’ high-water mark. They could never really solve Wrobleski, who bobbed and weaved his way through seven innings. Wrobleski gave up eight hits and struck out only three, but didn’t walk any and was never stressed.

Wrobleski became the first Dodgers starter to go at least seven innings and allow one or fewer runs with no walks in back-to-back starts since Max Scherzer in 2021.

“He was just attacking the strike zone,” Schaeffer said. “But I don’t think we took bad at-bats tonight. According to my calculations, we hit 15 balls hard tonight, which is a lot of hard-hit balls. I thought we pushed our offensive approach forward again tonight, we just didn’t get the results.”

Colorado did get a big fly in the eighth when rookie first baseman TJ Rumfield hit a 440-foot solo homer into the second deck in right field off of reliever Edgardo Henriquez. It was Rumfield’s third homer of the season.

In the second inning, Muncy and Miguel Rojas launched back-to-back solo home runs off Rockies starter Jose Quintana, who was making his first start at Coors since Aug. 10, 2022, when he pitched for St. Louis. The best that can be said of Quintana’s performance on Monday night was that he saved the bullpen some gas by pitching five-plus innings.

The veteran lefty gave up six runs (four earned) on eight hits. He struck out one and walked one. He also committed a fielding error and balked in a run in the fourth while pitching to Shohei Ohtani.

“It felt better today … and my mechanics were better. If I keep throwing that way, it will give us a better chance to win,” said Quintana, now 0-2 with a 6.23 ERA after three starts. He missed time because of a hamstring strain early in the season.

Added Schaeffer: “I thought he battled, but he got hurt when he got behind in counts.”

Colorado was charged with three errors. In addition to Quintana’s error (he failed to catch the ball when covering first base), third baseman Eric Karros misplayed Will Smith’s slow grounder in the third, allowing Ohtani to score from second base, and reliever Tanner Gordon muffed Rojas’ bunt in the sixth, allowing Andy Pages to score.

Gordon, working in long relief, pitched four innings and was blasted for six runs on seven hits, including giving up a solo home run to Dalton Rushing in Los Angeles’ two-run eighth, then a solo home run to Muncy, as well as a two-run homer to Rushing in the ninth. Muncy batted .588 (10 for 17) with one double, four home runs, and five RBIs during the four-game series.
