Jessica Alvarado Gamez (she/her/hers) is an award-winning visual storyteller and investigative journalist covering business for The Denver Post.
She holds a masterâs in Investigative Journalism from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University and was an investigative Roy W. Howard Fellow on the data team at WBEZ, Chicagoâs NPR News Source.
Jessicaâs investigative work has garnered significant recognition, including the 2024 Driehaus Foundation Award for Investigative Reporting, where she won 1st Place in the Large Newsroom category for âProfiled: The State of Traffic Stops in Illinois.â She also received the 47th Annual Peter Lisagor Awards for Best Investigative Reporting by a Large Newsroom and the Watchdog Award for the same project.
Her work has been featured by leading media outlets such as the Associated Press, where she worked on their project âLethal Restraint,â a deep dive on police use of force. Additionally her work can be found on the Chicago Sun-Times, WBEZ, Univision Arizona, Arizona PBS and the City of Phoenix PHXTV.
When sheâs not writing, Jessica enjoys watching horror movies, traveling and savoring a good cup of coffee.
