Colorado county, healthcare provider to pay $10.2 million after man slowly died in jail despite pleas for help

Law enforcement officials investigate the scene of a shooting in the 5300 block of Sheridan Boulevard on Jan. 25, 2023 in Arvada. Law enforcement officials temporarily shut down Interstate 76 and Sheridan Boulevard in Adams County after someone fired multiple rounds into businesses at a strip mall and injured one woman, an Adams County Sheriff鈥檚 Office spokesman said. Investigators believe the shooter was in a field or trailer park on the west side of the 5300 block of Sheridan Boulevard when multiple shots were fired toward a strip mall across the road, Adams County Sgt. Adam Sherman said. Multiple businesses, which are mostly Latino-owned, were hit. One woman was taken to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities do not believe the woman was the intended target although they do not know what led to the shooting, Sherman said. A manhunt for the shooter is ongoing. The Jefferson County Sheriff鈥檚 Office is asking residents and motorists to avoid the area.
