Launched in 1977, the Voyager probe was originally designed as a four-year mission to explore Saturn and now will study exotic particles in interstellar space.

American-born Islamist militant Omar Hammami was killed by former Islamist colleagues in Somalia on Thursday. Hammami — a jihadi from Alabama whose nom de guerre was Abu Mansoor Al-Amriki, or "the American" — ascended the ranks of Somalia's al-Qaeda-linked militant group al-Shabab. Mammami had recently fallen afoul of al-Shabab warlord Ahmed Abdi Godane.
