Obama visits Denver to unveil plan to ease students' debt load

Senator Rollie Heath, D-Boulder, is saying that our children can not wait for adequate education funding in Colorado. Today, Monday, February 28, 2011, Heath held a press conference in the west foyer of the state capitol to explain his ideas for an initiative that would prevent potential major cuts to education budgets in the future. He said that recent cuts to education are unacceptable. His initiative would be as follows: -Increase the Colorado sales and use tax rate from 2.9% to 3.0%. -Increase the Colorado individual and corporate tax rates from 4.63% to 5.0%. -All new revenues would be used to fund K-12 or higher education. -Would go into effect January 1, 2012 and sunset December 31, 2014.
