As the snow melts, it’s time to dust off the longboards to get your cruising fix. The Snowsports Industries America trade show in January in Las Vegas was awash in longboard companies peddling their summertime cruisers. The most innovative by far was Loaded Boards. These lightweight boards marry oak, fiberglass and carbon fibers in a mega-cambered ride that flexes like nothing you’ve ever ridden. The bouncy boards rebound and flex with pressure, providing riders with a fluid feel much like riding powder – with better control. Despite the deep flex, the boards are virtually indestructible.
“I feel like I snowboard year-round now,” said pro Steamboat Springs rider Darren Ratcliffe, who rides Loaded boards all summer. “I grab a soft Loaded to ride powder and a stiff Loaded to ride groomers.”
Test ride a Loaded ride at several skate shops across Colorado, including All Boards Sports in Boulder, the Boardroom in Lakewood and the Wrightlife in Fort Collins. Check out the various board designs and flexes at www.loadedboards.com. Ever seen anything like that Hammerhead board? Prices range from $179 to $249.
