The new University of Colorado women’s basketball coach likely will come from among three female candidates who were interviewed by CU officials over the weekend – Melissa McFerrin of American University, Kathy McConnell-Miller of Tulsa or Kamie Ethridge of Kansas State.

McFerrin and McConnell are head coaches with WNBA ties, and Ethridge is a longtime assistant under highly successful Kansas State coach Deb Patterson.

The most experienced of the three is McConnell- Miller, who has compiled a 91-88 record in six seasons at Tulsa. She led her past two Hurricane teams to school-record 19-11 marks and berths in the WNIT.

McFerrin was an assistant coach on the University of Minnesota’s Final Four team in 2004 before becoming the head coach at American, where she led the Eagles to an 18-10 record this past season.

CU officials late last week said they were eager to make the hire by midweek in order to present the new coach to the regents for contract approval Thursday.
