Sunday, coach Mike Shanahan said the Broncos will monitor the free-agent market as they tinker with filling the team’s roster.
Monday, the Broncos saw someone they liked when Arizona cut offensive tackle Anthony Clement. He is expected to be in Denver today to take a physical. If he passes, there is a good chance he will be signed. Clement would come in as a backup to right tackle .
Like Foster, Clement is big, at 6-feet-8 and 333 pounds. He lost his starting job last season, and Arizona tried to trade him during the NFL draft. Clement, 29, has started 71 games.
Denver remains interested in linebacker Chad Brown, who was cut by Seattle last week. The former University of Colorado star will visit with New England today and perhaps go to Pittsburgh on Wednesday. Brown, 34, spent his first four NFL seasons with the Steelers.
Green Bay and New Orleans also are interested in Brown.
Brown, who met Friday with Shanahan, likely would have to sign with Denver as a situational pass rusher. He could make his decision in the next week.
Clarett’s agent backs vow
Maurice Clarett vowed Sunday he was so ready to resume his football career and so prepared to start his NFL career on the right foot, there would be no way he would hold out of training camp.
Monday, one of his agents, Steve Feldman, shared the sentiment.
“Maurice will not be a holdout,” Feldman said. “He will be at camp on time and ready to prove the Broncos right in their decision to take him. There will be no problems.”
Footnotes
Colorado State’s Erik Pears agreed to terms with the Broncos as an undrafted free agent. The offensive lineman was considered a potential midround choice but had a shoulder injury, which should be healed by camp. … Detroit signed defensive tackle Brandon Kennedy. He is the brother of former Denver safety , who signed with the Lions last month. Brandon Kennedy was in the Broncos’ camp in 2004.
