Out and about: Netanya is a small coastal city in northern Israel. Seaside hotels on a cliff promenade have balconies overlooking the Mediterreanean Sea. We saw people surfing the small waves, hang gliding off the cliffs and kite surfing. A beachfront stable also offers horseback riding on the sand. Restaurants are terrific.
Travel tip: Netanya is an easy two-hour bus ride from Jerusalem. Taxis, trains and buses are very cheap and convenient all over Israel – renting a car is also surprisingly reasonable, but Israelis drive very fast.
