Who: Lynn Kelly of Loveland, Toilet Man, and Barb Enright of Fort Collins

Where: La Rambla, Barcelona

Out and about: Inspired by a Denver Post article on Barcelona’s La Rambla street performers, we traveled to Barcelona for 10 days of Spanish sunshine. The colorful and often ingenious actors, mimes and human statues are only one of the many attractions along this incredible pedestrian avenue. Numerous vendors sell everything you can imagine – flowers, jewelry, clothing, original works of art, and even birds and rabbits. Inviting sidewalk cafes serve up Catalonian cuisine along with huge goblets of thirst-quenching sangria.

Travel tip: Plan your trip to coincide with a festival. We visited during the city’s patron saint celebration (la Merc ). There were daily parades, nonstop concerts and theatrical exhibitions, performances by castellers who formed incredible human towers, as well as an unforgettable fireworks display over the Mediterranean. Also, don’t let this street performers toilet act mislead you – public restrooms in Barcelona are not so plentiful.

It’s wise to plan your outings accordingly.
