Englewood – Are there two of Josh Reichert?

Kent Denver’s junior attack scored five goals, including three in the fourth quarter, and added two assists Wednesday in a 10-4 Southern League victory over Colorado Academy at DeSorrento Memorial Field.

The Sun Devils (10-3, 6-0) led 5-4 after three periods but blew the doors off Colorado Academy (8-2-1, 3-2) in the final 12 minutes.

“We started to work together. We made some good passes and started to put the ball in the net. That made the difference in the fourth quarter,” said Reichert, who also scored five goals in a game against Cherry Creek this season.

Kent Denver took a 4-1 lead in the second quarter with a spinning goal by Reichert. But Colorado Academy clawed back with physical play and three goals by Sam Allen.

Allen’s third score made it 5-4 after three quarters, but that’s all the Mustangs would get.

“They had good transition and got our defense moving and sliding, and they just capitalized,” Allen said. “They locked me off, and I was forced to stay in the crease, and I couldn’t get open.”

Kent Denver’s Michael Riley started off the fourth-quarter scoring barrage with style.

Moving to the right of the net, Riley took a pass from Reichert and shot behind his head, surprising Colorado Academy goalkeeper Noah Aptekar.

Kent Denver sophomore keeper Max Pluss made things difficult for the Mustangs by stopping 11 of 15 shots.

“C.A. came out gunning. They matched us physically in the first half, but we come out to play every game,” Pluss said.

Goal scorers for Kent Denver included Ian Ferrell, Tim White, Matt Kelsic and Tyler Morton. Chris Anderson scored the other goal for Colorado Academy to make the game 4-3 in the third quarter.

Kent Denver, the two-time defending state champion, will go for its seventh consecutive league title Saturday against East, also unbeaten in league.
