At least Colorado Crush coach Mike Dailey feels like he has company, but it might be a little too close for comfort.
“We’re in the pack,” Dailey said Sunday. “We’re fighting to make the playoffs, and it’s really jammed up at the top in both conferences.”
The Crush was reduced from being the leader of the Central Division to a logjam at the top by losing 58-52 on Saturday at Grand Rapids.
Colorado’s third loss in a row, coupled with the Chicago Rush’s 63-62 victory Sunday over Las Vegas, left the Crush and Rush tied for the division lead at 8-5. The Rush owns the tiebreaker after beating the Crush twice during the season.
“The only thing I know for sure is that we have to keep moving forward in each of the three games we have to play,” Dailey said.
The Georgia Force has a league-best 9-4 record, while the Crush is among a group of nine teams with five losses. The playoffs consist of the four division winners plus the next two teams with the best record in each conference.
“This all shows that the Arena League is fiercely competitive with a lot of parity,” Dailey said. “There are upswings and downswings over the course of a season. We have to find a way to put the brakes on our downswing.”
Dailey said he would go through the week’s practice sessions before making any decisions on personnel changes. The Crush plays on Sunday at New Orleans.
