Q: Dear Great Scott! Hello!

I have noticed that nearly all of your letters in your column are from women.

I am a woman, and it amuses me when a lady has a problem with one guy and then lumps the whole male population as “mysterious creatures” (so to speak), all because she does not want to face the truth (which is unpleasant).

I think a lot of your advice seekers know the answer but are looking for a “wishful thinking” answer from you.

Chances are, they already asked their friends and family for advice and were not satisfied with their answers.

Oh, well! If it wasn’t for us women, you would not have your column!

Regards,

SCOTT: First of all, not all of my letters are from women. I get a fair number of e-mails from men as well (read yesterday’s column for instance).

Second, if my readers were seeking “wishful thinking” advice, they would be better off writing to Dear Abby!

I don’t know how often you read the column, but I would say the wise people who write to me for advice are seeking a non-biased opinion and rarely do they get the answer they want to hear. They do want the truth, though, and that’s why they come to me.

Sometimes we already know the answer to a problem, but we look for someone without a vested interest to give us the low-down. Smart!
