Aurora – A man shot outside a Blockbuster video store in November over a dispute about a car-door scratch refused a blood transfusion and later died, according to the Arapahoe County coroner’s report released this week.

Aaron Davis, a 39-year-old Jehovah’s Witness, died Nov. 13 because of a gunshot wound to his lower chest, according to county Coroner Michael Dobersen, who determined the manner of death to be a homicide. Whether a blood transfusion would have saved Davis’ life is unclear.

Glen Eichstedt, a 52-year-old Denver bar owner, told police he was attacked by Davis and his wife, Benita Coleman-Davis, during a confrontation at a strip mall in Aurora. Eichstedt said Aaron Davis hit him with a pipe before Eichstedt fired his pistol four times, hitting Davis and Coleman-Davis. Coleman-Davis survived.

The case drew controversy because Eichstedt is white and the Davises are black. Friends and relatives of the Davises said race played a factor in police not charging Eich stedt with a crime. A grand jury is hearing the case to determine whether Eichstedt should be charged with a crime. Assistant District Attorney Leslie Hansen said no decision has been issued.
