Who: Cousins Isaac Andresky, 12, of Lafayette, and Isaac Comcowich, 11, of Arvada
Where: Molokai
Out and about: The largest banyan tree in the Hawaiian islands is said to grow in the yard of elder cousin Kevin Comcowich’s home in Kualapuu on the unspoiled island of Molokai. Molokai also is home to the 3-mile-long Papohahu Beach, the longest and widest beach in Hawaii.
Travel tip: Molokai is very rural, having only 6,000 residents. The world’s highest sea cliffs are along the island’s northern shore, as is the one-time leper colony at Kalaupapa (for people with Hansen’s disease), now a national historical park. Visitors will enjoy snorkeling and playing an inexpensive round of golf. Don’t miss Molokai’s madcap nightlife experience – lining up at 10 p.m. at the back door of Kanemitsu’s Bakery in Kaunakakai for hot bread.
