The 50th anniversary production of “The Ballad of Baby Doe,” which had its world premiere in the former mining town, opens the 2006 season of the Central City Opera.

The opera about Colorado mining magnate Horace Tabor and his wife, Baby Doe, was written for Central City by Douglas Moore in 1956 and plays June 24-Aug. 6 in rotation with “Don Giovanni” and “The Coronation of Poppea.” Season tickets go on sale to subscribers in July and single tickets in April 2006.
