Nuggets assistant general manager Jeff Weltman interviewed Tuesday for the Cleveland Cavaliers’ general manager job. Cavaliers owners Dan Gilbert and David Katzman were among those who interviewed Weltman, whose father, Harry, was the Cavs’ president and GM in the 1980s.
Jeff Weltman declined comment.
“I’m always supportive of anyone in our organization if there is a chance to move up,” Nuggets general manager Kiki Vandeweghe said.
The Cavaliers have been in search of a GM since firing Jim Paxson on April 21.
Weltman arrived in Denver in 2001 after spending 13 seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers, including seven years as their director of player personnel. The Oberlin (Ohio) College graduate was a finalist for the Toronto Raptors’ general manager opening last year.
The Cleveland Plain Dealer reported the Cavs also have interest in David Morway, the Indiana Pacers’ senior vice president of basketball operations.
Getting defensive
The NBA’s all-defense teams will be released today. Nuggets center Marcus Camby is expected to be named to the second team, according to a source. Camby was seventh in the league in defensive rebounds per game (8.0) this season and led the league with 199 blocked shots (3.02 per game).
“I don’t think there has been anyone that has more of an impact defensively,” Vande- weghe said. “If you look at the second half of the year, you might want to put (Nuggets forward) Kenyon Martin on that list, too.”
Footnotes
