Getting your player ready...

Grand Junction pitcher Tyler Anderegg wasn’t fazed by his top-ranked opponent.

Anderegg regularly blew through Rock Mountain’s lineup Friday en route to a 4-0 Tigers victory in a Class 5A playoff game at All-City Stadium.

“You feel good when your teammates put a four-spot on the board in the first inning,” said Anderegg, a senior. “That allows you to just go out and focus on throwing strikes and not having to be too fine.”

Too fine described Anderegg’s performance. He allowed just three hits in a game that took about 90 minutes. A breezy win, in other words.

“I think we put a statement out there today,” said Anderegg, who will play baseball at West Point for Army. “We’re in a pretty good position going into (Saturday).”

The Tigers will play Cherry Creek Saturday, as part of a double-elimination tournament. Earlier in the day, the Tigers beat Regis 4-3.

Lobos starter Scott Bachman retired the first two batters with ease in the first inning, but was charged with four unearned runs before the inning ended. The first two were scored by Shay Starr and Mark Novotny, while Anderegg drove in a run with a bases-loaded walk.

Lobos senior shortstop Chris Capps, who pitched his team to victory earlier in the day against Pomona, made two errant throws to first as part of the inning.

The Tigers also got a run on a wild pitch by Bachman.

Otherwise, Bachman was about as good as Anderegg.

“He shut us down, really,” Grand Junction coach Kyle Rush said of Bachman. “But for Tyler, that was hands down the best game of his career.

“He had good command, and the guys made plays behind him.”
