Jeff Bzdelik’s interest in the men’s basketball coaching job at the Air Force Academy has temporarily taken a back seat to a personal matter, according to Bzdelik’s agent.

Warren LeGarie said his client is attending to a family matter that will occupy his time for at least the next few days.

“Jeff is looking at his options and the Air Force job is a viable one, but it will be a few more days before he will be able to look deeper into the situation,” LeGarie said.

Bzdelik hasn’t returned telephone calls from The Denver Post since he was linked to the Air Force job last week. He coached the Nuggets to the 2004 NBA playoffs but was fired in December after the team got off to a 13-15 start.

Bzdelik, 52, is one of four coaches who have been identified as candidates to replace Chris Mooney, who resigned two weeks ago to take the job at Richmond.

Air Force assistant coaches Mike McKee and Larry Mangino, as well as Dean Christian, a former AFA player and coach at the academy’s Prep School, are on a list of possible replacements that Air Force athletic director Hans Mueh said had reached 20 by late last week.
