Air Force Academy – The Air Force Academy today named former Denver Nuggets coach Jeff Bzdelik to be its new head coach.

The Nuggets fired Bzdelik Dec. 28 after a 13-15 start. He went to Denver in 2002, taking over one of the NBA’s worst teams, and led the Nuggets to the playoffs in 2004.

He replaces Chris Mooney, who resigned May 5 after one season to become head coach at Richmond.

Mooney, who was 18-12 at Air Force, quit just days after a five-year deal took effect.

Terms of Bzdelik’s contract were not disclosed.

“He brings a wealth of experience at the highest levels of basketball and has a proven record,” academy athletics director Hans Mueh said.
