The agent for Nuggets general manager Kiki Vandeweghe said he plans to deliver a proposal for a contract extension to Kroenke Sports Enterprises for his client in the near future.

The Nuggets denied the Cleveland Cavaliers permission this week to interview Vandeweghe for their general manager’s job. Vandeweghe is under contract with the Nuggets until Aug. 1, 2006. His agent, Warren LeGarie, hopes to work out an extension.

“There have been no contract talks,” LeGarie said. “At some point, I think we submit what his value is to the organization. It has to be accepted or modified.”

LeGarie said he has “nothing in the works” at this time, and Nuggets owner Stan Kroenke declined comment.

The Nuggets have gone from struggling to earning two playoff appearances since Vande- weghe was hired. LeGarie said Vandeweghe, a former Nugget, prefers to stay in Denver.

“Kiki has real emotional ties as well as lifestyle ties,” LeGarie said. “That’s a situation he gave birth to. You don’t want to abandon a prospering child.”
