The USGA received a record 1,158 entries to the 2005 U.S. Women’s Open, which will be played June 23-26 at Cherry Hills Country Club. The previous record of 1,097 entries was set last year.

By comparison, 10 years ago the U.S. Women’s Open attracted 826 entries. A total of 626 golfers entered in 1985, 175 in 1975, 84 in 1965 and 49 in 1955.

The two-stage qualifying process began in 2002. Denver Country Club will host sectional (final stage) qualifying June 14.
