Rich Abrahams, a 60-year-old masters swimmer, world record-holder and city of Aurora recreation administrator, broke six national masters records en route to winning all six of his events at the U.S. Masters Swimming Short Course National Championships this past weekend in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Abrahams broke the national masters record in the 60-64 age category for the 100-yard freestyle, completing the race in 49.14 seconds. His time beat the old record of 52.03 seconds set by former Olympic gold medalist Jeff Farrell in 1997. Abrahams also beat Farrell’s 1997 records in the 50-yard freestyle and the 200-yard freestyle, posting times of 22.30 and 1:56.69, respectively.
Abrahams also topped the national masters records in his age category for the 100-yard individual medley with a time of 1:01.50, the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 24.46, and the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 54.92.
