Skiing at Arapahoe Basin on my birthday, May 22: I have had a ski party with my friends and relations at A Basin every year for the past 10 years except when it was closed a few years ago during the drought.
Biking up to the National Center for Atmospheric Research: This is one of my favorite buildings, and biking up to it is a pilgrimage. It’s located on a mesa and complements the Flatirons rather than distracting or competing with the surrounding natural beauty. The scale is broken down into a cluster of smaller buildings with wonderful outdoor public spaces. The architecture is minimal yet rich in form and texture.
Dirt-bike riding over Rollins Pass on a clear summer day: Dirt-bike riding and skiing are sports that I share with my two teen boys. We ride four-stroke bikes, which are quieter and pollute less than most dirt bikes. Riding creates interaction with people I normally would not meet.
The Denver Art Museum: I particularly like visiting the Department of Architecture, Design and Graphics.
The National Western Stock Show, Rodeo & Horse Show: Visiting the stock show is a great reminder that Boulder is not representative of the state of Colorado. When our kids were small we had foreign nannies. The big event each year was to take the nanny to the rodeo.
