Students remained indoors for recess Wednesday, a day after someone fired a pellet or BB gun into a busy playground at Academia Ana Marie Sandoval in west Denver.

A teacher was struck in the right calf and a teacher’s assistant was hit in the neck about 1 p.m. Tuesday.

“One of the employees is back, and the other checked in with students this morning and left this afternoon,” said Denver Public Schools spokeswoman Tanya Caughey.

Denver police have assigned a detective to investigate the shooting, but no arrests have been made, spokesman Sonny Jackson said.

Students and parents identified the wounded employees as art teacher Ashley Nemeth and aide Natina Berrios, a reading and writing assistant. They are both recovering.

Academia Ana Marie Sandoval is a dual-language Montessori school at Wyandot Street and West 36th Avenue.
