Commission workshop

The presentation of a draft plan to combat an infestation of New Zealand mud snails will highlight the Colorado Wildlife Commission’s June 9 workshop in Estes Park. The 8 a.m. session at the Holiday Inn-Rocky Mountain National Park also features an update from the License Allocation Review Committee and a report on problems related to auction and raffle programs the Division of Wildlife operates jointly with certain conservation organizations.

Camping opportunity

To assist persons who want to become involved in camping, REI will stage a free family jamboree from 1-5 p.m. June 11 at Chatfield State Park with demonstrations and clinics on cooking, map and compass, paddling, cycling, fly-fishing and camp games. In addition, REI members can preregister for a family overnight camp-out, which, for a $45 fee, provides equipment, food, park fees and entertainment. For information, contact any Front Range REI store or, online, at rei.com/stores/.

The domestic water storage unit will be available from dawn to dusk for craft such as canoes, kayaks, rowboats and pontoon boats with oars. Motorized craft are excluded, as are kickboats, sailboards and other forms of body contact. Access is off Osprey Road on the south side of the lake. Boating season will close Sept. 30.
