Dennis A. Ahlburg has been named dean of the University of Colorado’s Leeds School of Business.
Ahlburg, a senior associate dean at the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management, will assume his new post Aug. 1 if approved by the CU Board of Regents.
He replaces Stephen Lawrence, who took over as interim dean in July when Steven Manaster stepped down.
Ahlburg has overseen all faculty and research issues as well as the budget and other matters at the Carlson School.
He is an Australian who received undergraduate and master’s level training in economics there before coming to the United States. He earned a doctorate in economics at the University of Pennsylvania.
Ahlburg headed a study of population growth and development for the Australian government in 1994, according to the University of Minnesota’s website.
Ahlburg “brings tremendous experience and enthusiasm to this pivotal position on the CU-Boulder campus,” CU-Boulder interim chancellor Phil DiStefano said in a release.
Ahlburg was travelling Wednesday and couldn’t be reached for comment.
The appointment follows a seven- month national search by a committee of faculty, students and staffers. He was one of three finalists, CU spokeswoman Pauline Hale said. Ahlburg’s base salary will be $260,000, and he will be eligible for up to $100,000 in incentive salary.
The Leeds School of Business has 3,400 students.
