Denver International Airport has opened 110 spaces of short- term parking at $3 an hour on the fourth-level passenger-pickup area of the terminal’s west side.
By the end of the month, the airport should have a similar area open on the east side, said DIA spokesman Steve Snyder.
DIA lost nearly 670 short-term spaces close to the terminal after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks forced security changes.
There will be no time limit on the new short-term parking, but if a vehicle is parked there for 24 hours, it will cost $72, Snyder said.
The parking areas are for motorists who need to leave their vehicles for relatively brief periods, he added. The cashier booth will always be staffed.
On June 15, the cost of parking in DIA’s garages is to jump to a maximum of $18 a day from the current $15. The $2-an-hour fee for garage parking will remain.
On the same day, the maximum parking rate for the airport’s economy lots adjacent to the garages will jump to $9 a day from the current $7.
